Young RSGS Talks Team

We want to do more to work with and help young people who are interested in the world around them. And we need to raise the profile of geography and the RSGS with more audiences of all ages, from school children to retirees. This project aims to help us deliver both aims by recruiting and training a number of young people to deliver talks on our behalf.

Horrible Geography of Scotland

The inspiration to study Geography can come from almost anywhere, and it’s never too early to provide that spark. Children’s books such as the popular Horrible Geography series play a vital role. And that’s why we’ve decided to  produce a Horrible Geography of Scotland. But we need your support…!

Inspiring People Fund

The Inspiring People Fund supports the costs of running the RSGS’s illustrated talks, including speakers’ fees and travel expenses, venue hire, medals and awards, publicity and promotion, so that audiences can continue to learn and be inspired those who are active and experienced in their field.

Promoting Science Fund

From 1884 till the present day, the RSGS and its members have part-funded the research and expeditions carried out by hundreds of students and explorers. The Promoting Science Fund supports the costs of awarding RSGS grants, allowing us to fund more geographical research work and expeditions.

Conserving Heritage Fund

The RSGS has a unique and fascinating collection of historical and contemporary maps, books, images, papers and artefacts. The Conserving Heritage Fund supports the costs of conserving and making accessible items in the collection, including cataloguing, restoring, maintaining, digitally scanning and exhibiting them, so that they can be better understood and appreciated by as many people as possible.

Exciting Learning Fund

The RSGS is working to promote geographical teaching and learning for young people. The Exciting Learning Fund supports the costs of developing and running the RSGS’s projects in schools, such as the ‘Outdoor Journeys’ project, and of promoting geography in schools and within the curriculum, to inspire the next generation of geographers.
