The RSGS Dumfries Group was established in 1999; Hamish Brown gave the first public talk, entitled Berber Life.

There are now six RSGS Inspiring People talks in Dumfries each year.

22nd October 2018 – Jo Woolf FRSGS, Beyond the Horizon

26th November 2018 – Prof John Briggs FRSGS, 21st Century Challenges for Africa

28th January 2019 – David Shukman FRSGS, Deep Sea Gold Rush: The New Threat to the Ocean Floor

25th February 2019 – Beth Christie FRSGS, Journey to Antarctica: Learning for Sustainability

25th March 2019 – Prof Iain Stewart, Planet oil: A History of Addiction

These talks are given on Monday evenings, and in the 2018-19 season they will all be held at The Crichton’s Easterbrook Hall.
