Luke helps Balbeggie Primary School pupils try on Antarctic exploration kit including a very warm sleeping bag.

On Tuesday 2nd May we were excited to welcome classes P5, 6 and 7 from Balbeggie Primary School to meet our two new Explorers in Residence, Hazel and Luke Robertson.  Hazel and Luke are leaving for their next expedition Due North:Alaska on Saturday (May 6th) but were able to spend some time talking to the children about previous expeditions and about planning for Alaska.

Luke and Hazel helped the children try on lots of different expedition gear from sand gaiters and goggles (from their recent Marathon des Sables) to a sledge hauling harness and polar mittens (from Lukes South Pole expedition).  Our Explorers were also able to tell the classes all about the different terrains, animals and weather that they had experienced. It was fantastic to see the children engaging with Luke and Hazel and asking lots of insightful questions. Thank you Balbeggie Primary and thank you Luke and Hazel – good luck in Alaska!

The “lesson in exploration” was filmed and will be available as a learning resource on GLOW tv. Whilst on expedition Luke and Hazel will be doing live GLOW Q&A sessions with schools for Education Scotland.

You will be able to follow Luke and Hazel’s adventure from next week via both their own social media and RSGS media (links in website footer below).
