Ordnance Survey (OS) has renewed its long-standing relationship with RSGS, to promote the essential role geography and geospatial data can play in delivering climate solutions and helping deliver better outcomes for the public.

The renewal of the three year Sponsorship Agreement highlights the shared purpose of the two organisations, which will focus on providing a collective voice to the policy and geospatial community in Scotland on the importance of geography and geospatial information.  They will also continue to share insight and expertise to support the wider network of geography experts and policy makers in Scotland.

The collaboration includes supporting geography-related research and education at all levels, looking at how geographical data can help create policy solutions in areas such as climate change and promoting the role of geography to support better outcomes for Scottish citizens whether through the promotion of healthy living or support to councils or emergency services.

RSGS Chief Executive Dr Mike Robinson OBE, said:

“Ordnance Survey, like RSGS, is a really respected organisation, which provides a fundamental service to so many in society.  Like RSGS, it has an incredibly strong heritage in map making and promoting geography, and a really vital current role in informing and solving critical issues, and inspiring people to make positive change.  We are delighted to be able to continue this valuable partnership with the Ordnance Survey.”

David Henderson, Chief Geospatial Officer at Ordnance Survey and RSGS Honorary Fellow said:

“RSGS’s commitment to promoting all aspects of the teaching and learning of geography and the role it plays in tackling the significant economic, social and environmental challenges present in the world today has made invaluable impacts not just across Scotland but at a global level.

“We are delighted to continue our valued relationship with RSGS, building on years of successful work together. Our shared focus in areas such as climate solutions, education and the promotion of geospatial insight will continue to help inform and underpin critical decision making.”
